Dr. Krista (Krissy) Bird and her son, Kalen Bird, are proud Métis citizens and Jesse Bird is an Indigenous ally committed to actively supporting and advocating for Indigenous Peoples.

Dr. Krissy Bird is a member of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, residing in District 8 – Lac Ste. Anne. Her family comes from the Portage la Prairie area of Manitoba (her dad moved to Alberta as a young adult) and includes multiple families that took Scrip in the Red River Settlement (genealogy confirmed by La Société historique de Saint-Boniface – family names can be provided if requested). She was born in Alberta and has worked and lived in Alberta for her entire life, except for two years when she lived in Idaho for her Post-Doctorate research. She volunteers on the Indigenous Devon Committee and assists Métis District 11 (St. Albert) with environmental issues.

Kalen (right) belongs to a children’s Métis Jigging group, has created a cultural initiative to teach local elementary students about Métis culture and jigging, and is a Métis artisan that specializes in jewelry & crafts made from feathers & other natural materials.

Environmental Assistance for Indigenous Communities

Bird Environmental Consulting Ltd.’s goal is to help Indigenous communities achieve the environmental outcomes that can only be provided by a truly owned and operated Indigenous environmental consulting company with a world class Indigenous biologist overseeing all aspects of your project. Non-Indigenous owned companies cannot fully respect or offer Indigenous knowledge. Similarly, Indigenous owned companies not owned and operated by an actual Indigenous biologist cannot provide two-eyed seeing approaches and fully and effectively utilize regulatory knowledge to assist the Indigenous Community. While many of our partner companies are not Indigenous, they have been selected because they are Indigenous allies that are highly skilled in their respective fields and are willing to take direction from Dr. Bird and all Indigenous clients.

Celebrating the Richness of Indigenous History

Bird Environmental Consulting integrates Indigenous knowledge and expertise to deliver impactful environmental solutions for diverse communities. We believe in working directly with communities to integrate knowledge from local elders and knowledge keepers, Dr. Bird’s Indigenous expertise, and western science to create the most complete product for Indigenous communities to use to further their projects or research needs.
